Wasatch Fencers Place Well at 2010 Utah Summer Games
Sixteen fencers from Wasatch competed at this year's Utah Summer Games. While all did very well, Joe Ogren, Brad Snow, Alla Hinrichs, Makenzie Steele, Nathen Beck, Holly Bowles, Kavika Berger, Brain Andersen and Ethan Gravis brought home coveted medals from the games.
This years best performance was turned in by Joe Ogren as he upset RJ Shipp in the final bout of the Junior Foil to capture the gold medal and earned his "B" rating. RJ, however, got revenge the following day, defeating Joe in the quarter final direct elimination of the Senior Open Foil. Joe also brought home the gold in the D & Under Foil event with teammate Brain Andersen taking the bronze.
Brad Snow and Ethan Gravis faced each other in the finals of the D & Under Epee with Brad taking the gold with his teammate earning the silver medal.
It should be noted that Alla Hinrichs finished 12th in a very tough Junior Foil event in addition to capturing the bronze medal in Women's Foil.

Donate to the "Tanner Holst Gold Fund"
The original Gold Fund was established in 1989 and has help dozens of financially challenged youth fencers train and participate in competitions at little or no cost to them. Funding comes from donations from individuals and businesses throughout northern Utah including many alumni who fenced at Wasatch Fencing during their youth. "It is more than fitting that our Gold Fund program carry Tanner's name," said club director Ron Hendricks. "As Tanner was always there to help fellow fencers out in any way he could."
Members were saddened by the unexpected passing of Tanner Holst on January 23 of 2009. Tanner had been an active member of our club for 5 years and had progressed to being one of the top junior fencers in the state. More importantly, Tanner brought joy into the lives of everyone who had the opportunity to know him.
